Mystery Peru offers you a full day tour that combines ancient pyramids of mud and a museum with a large collection of Peruvian gold. Our first excursion takes place at the ruins of Pachacamac, home of the most important god on the Peruvian coast. In Pachacamac you will see large truncated pyramids of mud and various others structures built during the Inca era. In addition you will enjoy great panoramic views of the Lurin valley and the nearby Pacific Ocean. By the afternoon we take you to visit The Gold Museum, which has on display unique golden pieces representing animals, birds, human beings and ancient gods. The museum also displays ancient weapons for around the world and a collection of colorful textiles from different Peruvian cultures.

TOUR TO PACHACAMAC RUINS & THE GOLD MUSEUM

Description:

09:15 h. You will be picked up from your hotel in Lima by our local guide and then you will join a group of tourist on our bus. We start our tour visiting the ruins of Pachacamc, which are located south of Lima. (40 minutes by bus).In order to get better understanding of this important archaeological site, we will visit first the Pachacamac Museum, which is located at the entrance of the ruins. At this museum we will be able to see various ancient relics found at the site during archaeological excavations. Among the remains, we will see various decorated ceramics, textiles and carving woods representing Pachacamac God. Afterwards we will leave the museum and will start to explore the site with our local guide. During our walking through the sanctuary we will visit its most important pyramids, in which stands out the north pyramid, a well preserve estructure with truncated shape. The north pyramid allows from its top amazing views of the nearby Lurin Valley and the Pacific Ocean. From the top you can also see the large plazas the Incas built to received hundreds of pilgrims who venerated this god. On our tour we will also see the Acllahuasi temple or the house of Mamaconas (name given to a particular group of women, sent from Cusco or other important cities to come to the place and take care of the religious ceremonies and the production of fine textiles for the nobility). Afterwards you will be conducted to a local restaurant where we will enjoy traditional Peruvian food. After lunch we will drive to the Gold Museum. The Gold Museum is one of the best museums of Peru, due to its large variety of pieces made especially of gold and silver. One visit to the Gold Museum will allow us to learn about the great skills of our ancient artisans who worked with metals and an array of precious stones. One of the pre-Inca cultures that stand out in the manufacture of jewellery made of gold and other pieces of religious characteristics is the Chimu Culture, which flourished around 1200 AC. During our visit we will be able to see the famous Ceremonial Knife, known locally as The Tumi. It is said that the Tumi was related to the different bloody rituals practiced by this culture. Another culture that also stands out is the Moche Culture, which developed around 200 AC, and also left behind an important legacy, including a large number of pieces made of gold, many of which are on display on this museum. Among the most spectacular golden artefacts, we will see sandals, nose ornaments, and sets of filigree figures depicting birds, men and monkeys, mantles, bracelets, earflaps, earrings, belts. In one of its galleries, one also can see staggering pieces of gold made by the Inca culture. This great museum also houses a fine collection of Weapons, featuring firearms, swords, and other weapons of war from different parts of the planet, being recognized internationally as one of the best collections of the globe. Finally all our clients are dropped off at their hotels.

You need to bring.

  • On this tour you must bring warm clothing, as the weather in Lima used to be very cold, especially in winter time (from June to September) when temperatures drop fast in the afternoon and nights are very cold. If traveling during summer time (December to March) light clothing is fine. Also bring a hut and sunglasses.
