Description – Excursion to the Sacred Valley of Cuzco
Part I – Awanacancha and Pisac Ruins
08:30 h. Our Sacred Valley adventure starts at your hotel in Cusco, our guide will meet you there.
Then we will take a winding road to the mountains north of Cusco, accompanied by a local guide.
Our first stop takes place at Awanacancha, a nice social project dedicated to elaborate textiles.
Among their products, there are hats, scarves, as well as the popular chullo, an iconic Andean hut.
Besides the textiles, here you can also appreciate llamas and alpacas, walking around their corrals.
Later on, we stop at a natural lookout point from where there is a great view of the Sacred Valley.
Shortly afterward we head to the Ruins of Pisac, an important Inca citadel.
The most impressive feature is the agricultural terracing, covering the hillsides.
Like many other important Inca building, Pisac also houses an Intiwatana, a ritual stone.
In addition, we also see aqueducts and amazing Inca masonry in the well-preserved buildings.
Afterward, wevisit the Pisac Market, where locals sell not only textiles but also Andean crafts.
Part II – Pisac Market and the Ruins of Ollantaytambo
Inside the market, you will find musical instruments, ceramics, and many other items.
Likewise, you will also find jewelry made with silver, gold and peculiar Andean toys.
Unlike Cusco markets, in Pisac products are cheaper and negotiable.
Shortly after we visite a typical restaurant, in which we will enjoy good Andean food.
Finally, we will leave in the direction of the Ruins of Ollantaytambo.
Ollantaytambo is undoubtedly one of the greatest architectural legacies of ancient Peru.
According to history, it was used as a fortress by the Inca resistance, against the Spanish.
We visit the most important sectors with our local guide and enjoy breathtaking views.
After exploring the ruins, we return to the city of Cusco.
