Description
Day 1: Scenic Train Ride to Aguas Calientes.
We will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at the designated time and transfer you by private car to Ollantaytambo Train Station. From there, board the train to Aguas Calientes, a quaint town near Machu Picchu. This train journey is one of Peru’s most scenic, offering stunning views as you travel alongside the Urubamba River. Watch the landscape change from the highlands to the lush Sacred Valley, passing through fields, villages, and spectacular Andean vistas.
Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, a representative from our agency will greet you at the train station and escort you on foot to your hotel, as taxis are not available in the town.
The rest of the day is free for you to explore Aguas Calientes. You might visit the Machu Picchu Museum, located about 1 kilometer downhill. The museum features Inca artifacts, virtual videos of the Inca Trail, and photos of Machu Picchu’s discovery. Alternatively, you can relax in the town’s thermal baths, located in the upper part of the village. Overnight at your selected hotel.
Day 2: Guided Visit to Machu Picchu and Return to Cusco.
To make the most of your visit to Machu Picchu, we’ll start early. After breakfast at 05:30 hrs, our guide will meet you at your hotel and take you to the local bus station. The bus ride up to Machu Picchu takes about 20 minutes and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains.
Once at Machu Picchu, our guide will show you the highlights of this incredible Inca city, including the Intiwatana (solar clock), the Sun Temple, and the urban and agricultural areas. Discovered in 1911 by Hiram Bingham, Machu Picchu sits at 2,430 meters above sea level in a tropical mountain forest. Its impressive walls and terraces blend seamlessly with the natural rock formations.
The guided tour lasts around 2 hours. Afterward, you’ll have free time to explore on your own. If you’re up for it, you can climb Huayna Picchu, the iconic mountain seen in classic photos of Machu Picchu. The climb takes about an hour and offers stunning views from the top.
Return by bus to Aguas Calientes for lunch and some last-minute shopping. At around 16:00 hrs, board the train back to Cusco, arriving after dark.
