Short Inca Trail to Machu Picchu

Day 1°: Km 104 – Chachabamba – Wiñay Wayna – Sun Gate – Aguas Calientes.

05:00 h. Our guide will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco and then transfers you to the train station.
At the station, we board the Expedition train to the Km 104, our starting point for the Short Inca Trail.

After nearly two hours, we will arrive at Km 104. Here, we get off the train and get ready for the trek.
Shortly after submitting passports control, we will walk across a bridge and head towards Machu Picchu.

The first attraction on the route will be the Inca ruins of Chachabamba, an important religious site.
Following the Inca path, we keep ascending along the mountainside until we reach the cloud forest.
After hiking for nearly 3 hours, the trail descends into the forest where we will stumble upon a beautiful waterfall.
Later on, we will walk down to Wiñay Wayna, a magnificent Inca retreat, overlooking the river.

Wiñaywayna…

According to archaeologist Wiñay Wayna was probably an experimental laboratory for agricultural purposes.
The name Wiñaywayna means Forever Young and comes from a name given to a beautiful orchid from the zone.

Afterward, we continue our hike towards the Sun Gate.
It is a fantastic lookout point considered the main entrance to Machu Picchu.
From here visitors will get a fantastic view of the Inca Sanctuary.
Additionally, the Sun Gate also offers visitors amazing views of the various sacred mountains around Machu Picchu.

Eventually, we will follow a narrow path that leads down to the little village of Aguas Calientes, where we spend the night.
The evening is free in Aguas Calientes, therefore you will have free time to explore this little village on your own.
Take into account that this village has thermal baths in its upper section, therefore you might also go there to relax.
Overnight at the Hotel Casa Andina Machu Picchu *** or similar.

Day 2°: Private tour to the Sanctuary of Machu Picchu.

06:00 h. After breakfast, our local guide meets you in the hotel lobby.
Shortly afterward, we take a tourist bus up to the ruins of Machu Picchu.
The bus ride lasts only twenty minutes, however, offers spectacular views of the surrounding mountains.

Upon our arrival, our guide will show you the most remarkable sights of Machu Picchu.
Among the buildings, we will visit the Sun Temple, the Solar Clock, the Condor temple, and others.
Likewise, we also visit the Inti Watana altar, a magnificent spot at the heart of Machu Picchu.
After exploring the city, you will have free time to walk around Machu Picchu on your own.
