Our Tour to the Archaeological Complex El Brujo leaves from the city of Trujillo.
The tour also includes a visit to the Cao Museum and the little village of Magdalena de Cao.
09:00 h. Our tour starts at your hotel in Trujillo, our guide will pick you up from there.
Shortly afterward, we head towards the Valley of Chicama to the north.
El Brujo complex is approximately 60 kilometers away from Trujillo, near the Chicama River.
Along the road, we drive across the countryside, passing sugar cane plantations and small villages.
Before reaching El Brujo, we will make a short visit to the community of Magdalena de Cao.
Afterward, we will head to El Brujo Complex, located nearby.
Upon arrival, our local guide will show us the best sectors of the shrine and its spectacular friezes.
Among the friezes, we will see a strange scene of naked warriors being taken to execution.
Following our tour, we walk up to the next level to see more ancient structures.
Here we will find bloody scenes of sacrificed children and images of priests of the Moche Elite.
Afterward, we visit a zone where archaeologists made a remarkable discovery.
There, below the ground archaeologists found the remains of an important Moche ruler, The Lady of Cao.
Further digging uncovered a staggering array of wealth, as well as mysterious friezes.
Among the relics found with her, stands out pieces of gold, as well as silver insignias and copper ornaments.
Likewise, her body shows tattoos with representations of snakes, spiders, and geometric designs.
According to local belief, the tattoos symbolize fertility and would also reveal her gifts as a shaman.
Visitors will be able to see the remains of this female ruler at the Cao Museum located nearby.
After visiting the Cao Museum, we will return to the city of Trujillo.
