The island’s inhabitants primarily speak Quechua, an ancient Andean language that has been passed down through generations. This linguistic tradition is a vital part of their cultural heritage, offering a unique glimpse into their historical and social practices.

The Lake Titicaca is believed to be the birthplace of the Inca civilization, where the sun god Inti and the goddess Mama Quilla created the first Inca rulers. The island of the Sun is particularly significant in this myth, symbolizing the divine origins of the Inca people.

“We really enjoyed the tour of Munay Wasy, one of the floating islands of Uros. Here, we learned how the reed houses and islands are made and maintained with a short demonstration. We also got to see the inside of one of the local homes and then took a relaxing ride on one of the island’s reed boats.”

“Wonderful excursion. Our family was kind and provided a clean accommodation and meals. Mystery Peru took us to the Uros floating island then to the Amatani for homestay, which was great.
The next day visited Taquile. Taquile was the best island for hiking and shopping for crafts.”
