Part I. Sunrise Trek Through the Nazca Desert
Our adventure begins early in the morning at 4:00 AM, before sunrise. This timing allows us to avoid the intense desert heat while enjoying the magical colors of dawn over the Andes Mountains.
After pickup from your hotel in Nazca, we travel approximately 30 minutes toward the foothills of the Andes until we reach KM 28, the starting point of our expedition. Here, we begin our hike through a fascinating desert landscape filled with native cacti, desert trees, and rugged mountain scenery.
As we gradually gain elevation, your guide will share insights about Cerro Blanco, the Nazca Desert, and the unique environment that surrounds us. Along the way, we will also pause to participate in a traditional Andean coca leaf offering ceremony, an ancient custom that honors the mountain and expresses gratitude to nature.
Part II. Reach the Summit of Cerro Blanco
The trail becomes progressively more challenging as we leave the rocky terrain behind and enter the vast sandy slopes of Cerro Blanco. The ascent follows a gentle route designed to make the climb more manageable, with several opportunities to rest and admire the scenery.
After approximately three hours of hiking, we reach the summit of Cerro Blanco, one of the highest sand dunes in the world. The reward is truly extraordinary. From the top, you’ll enjoy panoramic views of the Nazca Valley, endless golden dunes, the surrounding Andes Mountains, and, on many mornings, a spectacular sea of clouds below.
This is the perfect moment to relax, take photographs, and celebrate reaching one of Peru’s most remarkable natural landmarks.
Part III. The Ultimate Sandboarding Descent
Following a well-deserved break, your guide will provide a complete sandboarding briefing, including safety instructions and riding techniques. Before attempting the main descent, you’ll have the opportunity to practice on smaller dunes and gain confidence with the board.
Then comes the highlight of the experience: an exhilarating sandboarding descent down the massive slopes of Cerro Blanco. Glide across the golden sand and experience the thrill of riding one of the most impressive dunes on Earth. The longest descent stretches for more than 800 meters, creating an unforgettable combination of adrenaline, speed, and spectacular desert scenery.
After reaching the base of the dune, we continue with a pleasant 45-minute walk through the desert to our designated pickup point, where our vehicle will be waiting. From there, we return to Nazca with unforgettable memories of one of Peru’s most exciting desert adventures.
