Part I: Travel from Lima to Paracas Bay – Ballestas Islands.
06:30 AM. We leave from Lima early in the morning towards Paracas Bay. The car ride to Paracas lasts about 3 hours.
Upon arrival in Paracas, we head to the local pier to take the boat tour to the Ballestas Islands.
During our boat excursion, you will see a huge design on the slope of the hill, known locally as The Candelabra.
The origin of this drawing is unknown, and the only way to fully appreciate it is from the sea.
Some scholars associate the figure of the candelabra with the Nazca Lines, located further south.
Afterward, we will reach the Ballestas Islands; here you will see hundreds of marine birds flying overhead.
These small Islands also shelter large colonies of sea lions, which are usually swimming nearby.
Besides, you will see also groups of Humboldt Penguins.
It is forbidden to walk on the islands; therefore we will see all the marine life from our boat.
Afterward, we will get back to the mainland, getting there around 12:00 pm.
At the port, we will have free time for a coffee break, before starting the land tour to the Paracas Peninsula.
Part II: Paracas Peninsula Tour – Return to Lima.
During our excursion, you will visit the center of interpretation of Paracas.
On this building, you will appreciate through photos, all the fauna, flora, and other facts about the Paracas Reserve.
Afterward, we drive into a lifeless desert until we reach a nice lookout point from where you can enjoy spectacular views.
Among the beaches, we will make a stop at Red Beach, a nice spot, great for taking photos.
Later on, we will head little fishing village of Lagunillas for lunch and relax a bit at the beach nearby.

Humboldt Penguins are rare in tropical zones like Peru, yet they thrive in Paracas. Their unique adaptation to warm climates and distinctive markings make them a captivating sight along Paracas’ rocky shores. Protected within Paracas National Reserve, they represent the region’s remarkable biodiversity.
The ancient Paracas Culture flourished in the coastal deserts of Peru around 500 BC. In 1926, remarkable burial sites containing extraordinarily fine and colorful textiles, as well as the famous deformed skulls of the Paracas people, were discovered, revealing the sophistication of this ancient civilization. Visitors can learn more at the Julio C. Tello Museum, located inside the Paracas National Reserve.
