Part I: Journey into the Andes
Your adventure begins at 08:00 h with pickup from your hotel in Nazca. From there, we’ll embark on a scenic drive into the Andes. As we climb in altitude, the landscape shifts dramatically — from arid coastal hills to lush highland plateaus. Enjoy breathtaking mountain views as we make our way to higher elevations in search of rare Andean wildlife.
Part II: Searching for Guanacos and Exploring the Reserve
At around 3000 meters, we’ll begin looking for Guanacos, an endangered species of wild camelid rarely seen in Peru. As we continue, we reach Pampas Galeras Vicuña National Reserve, located at 4200 meters above sea level. Our first stop is a small museum where you’ll learn about the evolutionary history of Vicuñas and Guanacos, and how local communities have worked to protect them from extinction.
Part III: Close Encounters and Return to Nazca
After the museum, we take a guided walk through the reserve to observe Vicuñas in their natural habitat. Surrounded by the serenity of the high Andes, you’ll have time to take photos and appreciate the landscape. After this unforgettable wildlife experience, we begin our descent back to Nazca, arriving in the late afternoon for drop-off at your hotel.

Learn about vicuñas, Andean wildlife, and Pampas Galeras Reserve.
For centuries, Andean communities have practiced the ancient “Chaccu,” a traditional Inca ceremony used to carefully capture and shear wild vicuñas without harming them. This unique tradition is still celebrated in Peru every year in the month of June.
The vicuña produces one of the rarest and most valuable natural fibers on Earth. During Inca times, only royalty were allowed to wear garments made from vicuña wool because of its exceptional softness and exclusivity.
