LAKE TITICACA FULL DAY TOUR
Description
Lake Titicaca Full Day Trip
6:45 AM: Start your day with a pickup from your hotel in Puno by our friendly local guide, who will transfer you to the harbor.
We begin our boat excursion on Lake Titicaca with a visit to the Uros Floating Islands. This unique community has lived on these reed islands for decades. Centuries ago, the indigenous Uros tribe created these floating platforms to protect themselves from rival tribes like the Collas and the Incas. They harvested reeds from the lake, bundling them to build floating islands complete with reed houses and canoes.
On the islands, our guide will share insights into the Uros people’s lifestyle and customs. After exploring the floating islands, we continue our journey to Taquile Island, which takes approximately 2 hours. Taquile is home to a traditional Quechua-speaking community known for its ancient agricultural terraces. Relatively isolated until the 1950s, Taquile’s strong sense of community and family is evident.
Taquile Island’s weaving tradition, dating back to early civilizations, preserves elements of pre-Inca Andean cultures. You’ll see skilled artisans using pre-Inca looms to create distinctive garments like the “Chullo,” a knitted hat with earflaps, and the “Calendar Waistband,” which depicts agricultural and ritual cycles.
Upon reaching Taquile Island, we’ll walk up a narrow path, taking in stunning views of Lake Titicaca and charming houses inhabited by descendants of the Inca culture. At the top, enjoy some free time to explore before meeting the group for lunch at a local restaurant.
After lunch, we’ll head back to the harbor and return to Puno. We aim to be back in Puno by approximately 5:00 PM.

Customer Reviews

“We really enjoyed the tour of Munay Wasy, one of the floating islands of Uros. Here, we learned how the reed houses and islands are made and maintained with a short demonstration. We also got to see the inside of one of the local homes and then took a relaxing ride on one of the island’s reed boats.”

“Wonderful excursion. Our family was kind and provided a clean accommodation and meals. Mystery Peru took us to the Uros floating island then to the Amatani for homestay, which was great.
The next day visited Taquile. Taquile was the best island for hiking and shopping for crafts.”
