Nazca Lines charter and private day trip from Lima: your options

Aircraft over the Nazca Desert on a private day trip to the Nazca Lines from Lima

Lima is where most trips to Peru begin, and the Nazca Lines are high on many travellers' lists. The challenge is distance: Nazca is around 440 to 454 km south of the capital. If your time is short and you want to travel privately, there are two ways to see the lines starting from Lima: a full day private trip by road and a charter flight from Lima. Both are arranged on request and quoted for your group, so in this article we focus on how each one works, how long it takes and when it makes sense, rather than on prices.

Distances and travel times from Lima

Before choosing, it helps to picture the map. Two departure points matter for a day trip from Lima:

  • Pisco: about 3.5 hours by road from Lima. Pisco Airport is the departure point for the scenic flight over the Nazca Lines, which lasts about 1 hour 40 minutes.
  • Nazca: roughly 6 to 7 hours by car from Lima, depending on traffic. The classic flight from the Nazca aerodrome lasts about 35 minutes.

Driving all the way to Nazca and back in one day means more than twelve hours on the road, which is why a day trip from Lima is usually built around Pisco or around a flight from Lima itself. Our article on how to get from Lima to Nazca compares every way of travelling south in detail.

Option 1: a private full day trip from Lima

This is the option for travellers who are happy with an early start and a long but well organised day. A private vehicle with a driver picks you up at your hotel in Lima and takes you south along the Pan-American Highway. The most practical plan for a single day is to fly from Pisco, about 3.5 hours from Lima, then drive back to Lima the same evening.

  • Who it suits: travellers with one free day in Lima who want to see the lines without spending a night outside the capital.
  • What to expect: roughly seven hours on the road in total, plus the time at the airport and the flight. Bring snacks, water and something to read for the drive.
  • Why private: the vehicle is only for your group, the departure time is set around your flight, and you can stop when you need to.

Because the timing depends on the flight schedule assigned by the airline and on your hotel's location in Lima, we quote this trip for each group. There is no single published price.

Option 2: a charter flight from Lima

A charter flight is an aircraft reserved for your group that departs from Lima, so you skip the long road journey. It is the option for travellers whose priority is time: executive groups, families with limited days in Peru, or anyone who would rather not spend several hours in a vehicle.

  • Who it suits: groups that want to see the lines and be back in Lima with as little time on the road as possible.
  • What to expect: the aircraft, routing and flight times depend on the operator and on availability, so all of these are confirmed in your quote.
  • Budget: a charter costs more than travelling by road, so it makes the most sense when saving time matters more than the cost.

Charter flights are quoted on request. Send us your preferred date, the number of travellers and how flexible you can be, and we will come back with the available options.

Which option is right for you

  • Choose the private day trip by road if you are comfortable with an early start, want a more accessible budget than a charter, and do not mind a long day.
  • Choose a charter flight if your days in Peru are limited, if you are travelling with a group that values time above all, or if a long road day is not an option.
  • Choose neither, and stay a night or two in the south, if you have the time. It turns a long day into a relaxed trip and opens more options, such as the Nazca Lines Private Flight from Nazca at USD 150 per person for 2 to 5 travellers.

Combine the lines with Paracas and Huacachina

If you can add a night or two, the southern coast rewards the extra time. Paracas, near Pisco, is the base for boat trips to the Ballestas Islands and for the Paracas National Reserve, and Huacachina, a desert oasis beside Ica, is known for its dunes. Some ideas:

  • Fly from Pisco while staying in Paracas: the Nazca Lines Scenic Flight From Pisco Airport costs USD 350 per person (minimum two) and includes pickup at your hotel in Paracas, with a flight of about 1 hour 40 minutes. A private flight from Pisco is available on request.
  • Fly from Ica while staying near Huacachina: the Nazca Lines Flight From Ica costs USD 250 per person (minimum two). A private flight from Ica is also available on request.
  • Continue to Nazca: spend a night in Nazca and take the Nazca Lines Private Flight at 09:00, with pickup at your hotel and a Cessna just for your group.

Our article on a week in Paracas, the Ballestas Islands and Huacachina shows how to pace the coast at a comfortable rhythm.

How to request a quote

To prepare an accurate quote for a private day trip or a charter, we need a few details:

  • Your travel date, and whether you have any flexibility.
  • The number of travellers and their approximate weights, which the airline uses to plan the aircraft.
  • Your hotel in Lima, or the place where you would like to be picked up.
  • The time by which you need to be back in Lima, for example for a flight or a dinner.

Message us on WhatsApp at +51 941 695 002 or write to [email protected] and our team in Nazca will reply with the options that fit your day. Our guide to private Nazca Lines flights explains every private option, and if the lines are part of a longer journey, our team designs tailor made Peru tours that connect Lima and the south coast with Cusco, Machu Picchu, Arequipa or Lake Titicaca. Our Peru packages, such as Mystic Peru (10 days with Nazca, from USD 1,990), are a good starting point too.
